Emile Hirsch to star in biopic of 'The Blues Brothers' actor John Belushi
Belushi's 'The Blue Brothers' co-star Dan Aykroyd will serve as an executive producer on the film
Emile Hirsch is to star in a forthcoming biopic of late comedian and actor John Belushi.
Belushi, one of Saturday Night Live's original cast members and the star of The Blues Brothers, died at LA's Chateau Marmont hotel in 1983 following a so-called "speedball": a combined injection of cocaine and heroine. He was 33 years old.
The biopic, which is currently untitled, is being written and directed by Steve Conrad, who penned the script for Ben Stiller's forthcoming film The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. It is based on the book Belushi by Judith Belushi Pisano, the late actor's widow, and Tanner Colby.
Belushi's Blues Brothers co-star Dan Aykroyd will serve as an executive producer and Conrad is hoping to start shooting next spring (2014) in New York, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.
Hirsch, 28, is best known for his roles in Milk, The Girl Next Door, Speed Racer, Into The Wild and Taking Woodstock, Ang Lee's comedy-drama film about the legendary 1969 festival.
