Emotional Andrew Garfield: 'Spider-Man saved my life' - video
Actor gives impassioned speech about Peter Parker role at Comic-Con
Andrew Garfield has given an impassioned speech about how the character of Spider-Man saved his life as a child. The actor, who will appear as Peter Parker's web-slinging superhero in franchise reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, made the comments during a surprise appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego yesterday (July 23) - which you can watch by scrolling down and clicking below.
Garfield appeared onstage in a Spider-Man costume before pulling off his mask to loud screams from the crowd.
"I needed Spidey in my life when I was a kid and he gave me hope," he told the audience. "Peter Parker has inspired me to feel stronger. He made me, Andrew, braver.
"Spider-Man has saved lives. He saved my life and I owe webhead a lot," he added before paying tribute to "Stan the man" - Spider-Man creator Stan Lee.
Garfield will play a teenage Parker in Marc Webb's upcoming reboot, which will also star Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Irrfan Khan.
A teaser trailer for the film appeared online earlier this week - you can also watch this below.
The Amazing Spider-Man is due to be released in the US and UK on July 3, 2012.
