'Entourage' movie film nearly finished, says show's creator

Entourage creator Doug Ellin has almost finished his script for the proposed spin-off movie.

Yesterday (September 12), Ellin told Deadline that he is on page 110 of his screenplay and hoped to complete it by Sunday (September 16). According to industry rule-of-thumb, a typical screenplay for a two-hour feature film runs to around 120 pages.

Ellin also revealed that the film's script picks up six months after the TV show ended and begins with "interesting developments" for Jeremy Piven's character, Ari. However, describing the film's focus, he added: "Foremost is the friendship between the guys who are still hanging out and going to fun parties, and it continues with the same characters."

Entourage, which followed the LA adventures of an up-and-coming film star and his posse of childhood friends, debuted on HBO in 2004 and ran for eight seasons. Since the show ended last year (2011), each of the show's main cast members - Piven, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly and Kevin Dillon - has expressed an interest in returning for a feature film. The show's executive producer Mark Wahlberg is also on board.

However, speaking last month (August), HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo insisted that the film will only get the green-light if the finished script is up to scratch. He said at the time: "After we take a look at the script, we will see if there is any interest. We still have to make deals with the cast, and then figure out whether it is something that makes sense or not."

During his interview with Deadline yesterday (September 12), Ellin claimed that he is feeling confident. He said: "I'm excited. I feel a lot of positive energy. Everywhere I go, people ask me, 'Where’s the movie?'"
