The first trailer for the Evil Dead remake has been unveiled - scroll down to watch it.

The 95-second teaser has been given "Red Band" status, meaning it is only approved for more mature audiences. It features generous helpings of gore and violence and is not recommended to NME.com readers who consider themselves squeamish.

Evil Dead centres on a group of five college students who take a holiday in an isolated cabin in the Tennessee hills. Once there, they discover a Book of the Dead in the cellar and unwittingly summon up demons living in the woods nearby. It is a remake of the 1981 horror classic written and directed by Sam Raimi.

Raimi is on board as producer for the remake, which is being helmed by rookie director Fede Álvarez. Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, the scribe behind Juno and Jennifer's Body, has been brought in to revise the script.

The remake features Jessica Lucas from Cloverfield, Red Riding Hood's Shiloh Fernandez and Jane Levy, star of US sitcom Suburgatory. It is scheduled to open in cinemas next April (2012).
