'Family Guy' creator wants new 'Star Trek' series

Seth MacFarlane reveals his dream job is to bring back the space-cruising serial

Seth MacFarlane has revealed that his dream is to bring Star Trek back to television.

The Family Guy creator revealed his desire to revive the sci-fi drama drama on the small screen, with a reboot similar to The Next Generation.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'd love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s. [With] very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience."

However, he admitted that following the success of the new big screen version, his wish was unlikely to come true. "I don't know who would give me the keys to that car," he said.

A second movie in the new Star Trek series is in the works, with Chris Pinep and Zachary Quinto returning as Kirk and Spock. MacFarlane, meanwhile, is working on a revival of The Flintstones, alongside his hits Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show.
