'Fifty Shades Of Grey' cast won't be named at Comic-Con, says EL James
Mila Kunis, Emma Watson, Robert Pattinson and Henry Cavill have all been linked to the movie
Fifty Shades Of Grey author EL James has scotched rumours that the cast of the film adaptation will be named at San Diego Comic-Con next month (July).
British author James – real name Erika Leonard – told her 300,000 Twitter followers:
I dunno where this rumour started that the cast would be revealed at Comic Con... but it is just that – a rumour. (Sighs)— E L James (@E_L_James) July 1, 2013
Fifty Shades Of Grey is the first in James' trilogy of novels tracing the sexual relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and businessman Christian Grey. The original book was published in June 2011 and the series has now sold over 70 million copies worldwide.
Universal Pictures and Focus Features picked up the screen rights back in March 2012 and announced last Thursday (June 27) that the film adaptation will be released in US cinemas on August 1, 2014. The Fifty Shades movie now has a director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, and screenwriter, Kelly Marcel, but the leads have yet to be announced, leading to endless speculation online.
Mila Kunis and Emma Watson were once considered frontrunners to play Anastasia, but both actresses have apparently ruled themselves out, and more recently Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel has been linked to the role. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson, Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill have all been tipped to play Christian.
