'Fifty Shades Of Grey' episode for popular US crime show
Anna Chlumsky will guest star as the author of a familiar-sounding book series called '25 Acts'
The success of Fifty Shades Of Grey has inspired an episode of US crime series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The trilogy of erotic novels by British author EL James has sold over 40 million copies worldwide and a film version is now in the works. Law & Order: SVU will tap into the phenomenon with an episode in which Anna Chlumsky guest stars as the author of an S&M-themed book series called 25 Acts.
According to the episode's official synopsis, Chlumsky's character becomes the victim of an assault by a famous talkshow host. While investigating the case, detectives uncover a "secret that threatens to destroy the young woman's career as well as her case". The episode is due to air in the US on October 10.
In real life, the author of Fifty Shades Of Grey is a British woman from West London whose actual name is Erika Leonard. Earlier this month (September 2012), she revealed that she based a small character in the novels on herself and wants to play the part in the film.
She sold the screen rights back in March (2012), but the film still has no director, screenwriter or confirmed stars. Casting is a hot topic, with Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal and Ian Somerhalder apparently vying to play businessman Christian Grey.
Meanwhile, The Descendants' Shailene Woodley and teen star Ashley Benson are said to be contention to co-star as Anastasia Steele. Harry Potter star Emma Watson has also been linked to the film, but recently denied that she has seen a script. James has said that she has seven actors in mind for the two starring roles.
