'Fifty Shades Of Grey' film unlikely to star 'Vampire Diaries' couple
Actors Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev discuss rumours linking them to 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'
Actors Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have responded to rumours linking them to the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie.
The pair star together in TV's The Vampire Diaries as love interests Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert. They are also dating in real life and have been mooted to play the sexually voracious couple from EL James' erotic novel on the big screen.
The screen rights to Fifty Shades Of Grey - which traces the sexual relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and businessman Christian Grey - have been acquired by Universal Pictures and Focus Features. The film is being produced by Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti, who previously worked together on The Social Network.
However, talking to Extra at Comic-Con, Somerhalder suggested that the chances of he and Dobrev being cast together are slim. He said: "I can't imagine Universal doing that, but that could be very interesting." Dobrev added: "I think if we were both in Fifty Shades Of Grey, people would still see us as Elena and Damon."
Other actors linked to the Fifty Shades Of Grey film include teen star Lucy Hale and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, who has recently denied being cast as Christian Grey. Last week (July 13) Channing Tatum admitted that he wants to play Grey – but only if he can star alongside wife Jenna Dewan.
Since being published last year, the Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy has become notorious for its explicit sexual content and controversial portrayal of a relationship involving BDSM. The three novels by British author James have now sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
