Final 'Hunger Games' book to be split into two films
'Mockingjay' will provide the source material for a pair of films to be released a year apart
The third and final Hunger Games book will be split into two films, makers Lionsgate have confirmed.
Mockingjay, the final novel in the fantasy trilogy, will provide the source material for a pair of films to be released a year apart. The first film will be released on November 21, 2014, with the second to follow on November 20, 2015.
The Hunger Games, an adaptation of the first novel in the series by author Suzanne Collins, was released in March. Starring Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss, it grossed more than $677m (£432m) at the worldwide box office.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the second film in the series, is currently scheduled for a November 2013 release. Lawrence will reprise her role as Katniss, while castmates Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth have also been confirmed for the sequel.
Earlier this week (June 9), it was reported that Philip Seymour Hoffman was being lined up to play Plutarch Heavensbee, a key role in Catching Fire. The casting has now been confirmed and filming on the sequel is scheduled to begin in Atlanta, Georgia in September.
