'Frasier' star Kelsey Grammer joins cast of 'The Expendables 3'
He'll play an ex-mercenary who helps Sylvester Stallone's crew on their latest mission
Kelsey Grammer is set to join the cast of The Expendables 3.
According to Deadline, the Frasier star is "near a deal" to take a role originally intended for Nicolas Cage. Grammer will play Bonaparte, an ex-mercenary who helps Sylvester Stallone's Expendables on their latest mission.
This is the second high-profile film role Grammer has landed in recent months. In May he signed up to play the main villain in Transformers: Age Of Extinction, which is due out in June of next year (2014).
Meanwhile, The Expendables 3 is shooting now in Sofia, Bulgaria and its bumper cast of veteran action stars also includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li and Antonio Banderas. Mel Gibson has enlisted too and will play the film's villain.
A recently-released plot synopsis reveals that the film will also introduce a "new era of Expendables team members" who are apparently "younger, faster and more tech-savvy". The so-called "young blood" is being provided by Twilight's Kellan Lutz, boxing champion Victor Ortiz, Olympic judo medallist Ronda Rousey and up-and-coming actor Glen Powell.
The Expendables 3 is set for release on August 15, 2014 - just under two years since the release of The Expendables 2.
