Phoebe Buffay actress will play a politician on the hit TV series starring Kerry Washington
Friends star Lisa Kudrow has joined the cast of US political drama Scandal.
The actress has landed a recurring role on the show's third season, Deadline reports, and will play a politician.
Season two of Scandal is currently airing on Channel 4 on Thursdays at 9pm. Created by Shonda Rhimes (Grey's Anatomy), the show debuted on US network ABC last year (2012) and revolves around a secret on-off affair between the US President (Tony Goldwyn) and former White House Communications Director Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington).
Season two has already drawn to a close in the US and season three is set to premiere on ABC on October 3. In the meantime, Kerry Washington and co-star Dan Bucatinsky, who plays the husband of the President's Chief of Staff, will compete for acting accolades at next month's Primetime Emmy Awards in LA.
Meanwhile, Kudrow is currently appearing in Web Therapy, an innovative comedy programme that she created and co-writes that started life as an online sitcom and now airs as a TV series on US network Showtime.
