'Game Of Thrones' is renewed for fourth season

Game Of Thrones has been officially renewed for a fourth season.

Season three of the hit fantasy show began on US network HBO this Sunday (March 1) and a day later (April 1) in the UK, where it airs on Sky Atlantic. Nine episodes of the current season are still to come.

Last month (March), cast member Charles Dance appeared to let slip that a fourth season of Game Of Thrones is already in the works. Now HBO has confirmed that the show will definitely be returning for a new run of episodes next year (2014).

Game Of Thrones, based on the novels by George RR Martin, has been a major hit for HBO since it debuted in 2011. It also holds the unfortunate honour of being the most pirated TV show on the internet.

The series is known for its steamy storylines and vast ensemble cast, which currently includes Peter Dinklage, Mackenzie Crook, Paul Kaye, Emilia Clarke and Lena Headey. Meanwhile, guest stars during season three will include Coldplay's Will Champion, confirmed to be playing a drummer, and Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol, whose role is unknown.
