'Game Of Thrones' wins record number of Emmy Awards – see full winners list

HBO series collects 12 prizes alongside fellow winners 'Veep' and 'Olive Kitteridge'

Game Of Thrones won a record-breaking 12 Emmy Awards at the annual TV awards ceremony for in Los Angeles last night.

The HBO fantasy epic picked up 24 nominations for the Emmys this year and walked away with half, including prizes for Outstanding Drama Series and Oustanding Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage in his role as Tyrion Lannister.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss also picked up the award for Outstanding Writing while the Outstanding Directing award went to David Nutter.

Game of Thrones now surpasses The West Wing for the most Emmy wins in a single year. The political drama picked up nine in YEAR after its first season.

Eight of Game of Thrones 12 wins came at the Creative Arts Emmys last week, including prizes in categories such as Outstanding Make-Up for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic); Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series; Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program.

Other winners at last night's ceremony included Outstanding Comedy Series for Veep and Outstanding Limited Series for Olive Kitteridge. Jon Hamm won his first Emmy after seven previous nominations for his role as Don Draper on Mad Men.
