Gerard Butler for 'Point Break' remake?
Actor in discussions to play Bodhi
Gerard Butler is in talks to star in the much-discussed remake of Point Break, according to reports.
Butler, who has starred in films including 300 and Law Abiding Citizen, is in negotiations to take on the leading role of bank robber Bodhi in the project. The original Point Break, which was released in 1991, had Patrick Swayze in the starring role and was directed by The Hurt Locker filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the remake would follow the same plot by focusing on an FBI agent's efforts to infiltrate a criminal gang hidden who are obsessed with extreme sports. A script has reportedly been written by Kurt Wimmer, while Fast & Furious cinematographer Ericson Core will be in the director's chair.
Butler starred alongside Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman in last year's action film Olympus Has Fallen. He will voice a character in the forthcoming animated adventure How To Train Your Dragon 2, which is set to be released this summer (June 2014).
