Glee stars Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith will all be staying with the show.
The stars, who play Rachel, Kurt and Finn in the show, had apparently been facing an uncertain future on the show after creator Ryan Murphy announced his plan to graduate the senior year characters from high school to keep the show realistic.
It had previously been suggested that a spin-off show might follow Rachel and Kurt's adventures in New York after leaving school. And speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour at the weekend, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly confirmed that certain characters would leave school but ruled out the possibility of a spin-off.
However, it has now emerged that all three will stay on the show in some capacity. Michele told the Hollywood Reporter: "Ryan has come up with a brilliant, ground-breaking idea for how to include us graduating high school seniors into next season and it’s really exciting. We don’t want to give away the new formula but I'm excited and Cory is so excited to be coming back next year. When we heard Ryan's plan, it really made us even more thrilled."
Colfer previously confirmed to The Insider: "I'm coming back. I’m very excited. A lot of people are sad there won’t be a spin-off but I think they’re going to be very, very excited to find out what’s in store. I'm very excited by it. Ryan’s idea is kind of revolutionary."
It has been suggested that there may be some kind of ‘show within a show’ format. Monteith himself said: "People are going to graduate and their storylines will carry on through graduation into season four, also keeping the William McKinley High School paradigm intact and building in elements of characters who have graduated. It's a very cool way they’ve figured out how to do that."
