Guillermo del Toro's 'Pacific Rim' unveils new trailer - watch

A new trailer for Guillermo del Toro's eagerly-anticipated monster movie Pacific Rim has been released. Scroll down and click 'play' to watch it.

Pacific Rim is the first film directed by del Toro since 2008's Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. The Mexican filmmaker's previous directorial efforts include Pan's Labyrinth and Blade II.

Del Toro (pictured right) has called Pacific Rim "a beautiful poem to giant monsters" inspired by classic Japanese monster movies like Godzilla. The film is set in the not-too-distant future and follows the human race's battle to defeat an incredibly powerful race of monsters called the "Kaiju" that have emerged mysteriously from the ocean.

To combat the "Kaiju", scientists build a battalion of giant robots called "Jaegers" that are operated by two human soldiers simultaneously. When the Kaiju and Jaegers clash, the results aren't exactly pretty.

Pacific Rim stars Luther's Idris Elba, Sons Of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam and Charlie Day from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. It's set to stomp into UK cinemas on July 12.
