'Harry Potter' director David Yates to make new 'Tarzan' movie?
And he's reportedly meeting with actors including Henry Cavill and Alexander Skarsgård
Harry Potter's David Yates is reportedly set to direct a new Tarzan movie.
Warner Bros Pictures and Ocean's Eleven producer Jerry Weintraub have been trying to bring Tarzan back to the big screen since 2006. Over the years, they've courted several potential directors, including Guillermo del Toro. According to Vulture, Yates committed to the movie on Monday (November 5).
Yates is now said to be holding meetings with actors including Alexander Skarsgård, Charlie Hunnam and Henry Cavill, who is already the star of new Superman movie Man Of Steel. Meanwhile, Warner Bros apparently wants to arrange a meeting with Tom Hardy, but according to Vulture, the actor may not "share the studio's enthusiasm".
Tarzan, a character created by American author Edward Rice Burroughs, last swung into cinemas in 1999 in an animated Disney movie. Over the years, he has been portrayed on screen by numerous actors, including Johnny Weissmuller, Christopher Lambert and Casper Van Dien.
The new Tarzan movie could be the first directing job for David Yates since the end of the Harry Potter film franchise. He helmed the final four JK Rowling adaptations, wrapping up the series with last year's Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 2.
