Harry Potter spin-off book 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' to become movie trilogy

The Harry Potter spin-off book Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is being turned into a film trilogy, it has been revealed.

The New York Times spoke to Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara, who said that author JK Rowling's mock textbook - published as a companion to her popular series of novels about the famous boy wizard - will be made into three films. According to the article, there will be "three megamovies" based on the book, and Rowling said of Tsujihara: "When I say he made Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn't PR-speak but the literal truth."

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them was published in 2001. The textbook, which is often referenced in Rowling's Harry Potter novels, focuses on the travels of Ministry Of Magic worker Newt Scamander, who travels the world studying and categorizing strange and magic creatures.

Although there has been no casting, plot or director details released so far, Rowling will write her debut screenplay for the film adaptation. Her Harry Potter novels were adapted into a series of eight films released by Warner Bros between 2001 and 2011. They took a collective $7.7 billion (£4.9 billion) at the box office worldwide, making Harry Potter the highest-grossing film franchise ever.
