Amazon Prime subscribers will now be able to watch HBO series including The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire after the broadcaster agreed a rare licensing deal.
The cable service has signed a major deal with Amazon that gives Amazon Prime members unlimited streaming access to older shows such as The Wire and Deadwood, as well as select seasons of current series such as True Blood and Boardwalk Empire. (See the full list below.)
It is the first time HBO has signed licensed its content in this fashion and is seen as a major blow to Netflix.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the hugely popular Game Of Thrones will not be available nor will Sex and the City, Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm. However, specials by comedians including Ellen DeGeneres and Louis CK will be available and episodes of newer shows such as Girls, Veep and The Newsroom will be part of the deal in time.
