HBO denies rumours linking Jessica Chastain with second season of 'True Detective'

Actress was believed to have been offered lead role in HBO drama

Jessica Chastain has not officially been offered a role in the second season of True Detective, despite reports to the contrary.

The first season of the hit US show starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. However, neither actor will return for another instalment with creator Nic Pizzolatto rumoured to be favouring an all-female cast.

Nerdist reports that Chastain has been offered the lead role in the next season, which will again air on HBO. However, Chastain's publicist Nicole Perna told The Wrap that, "I can tell you she's not doing this project officially" while E! Online is reporting that HBO has denied that Chastain will be heading to the series.

Jessica Chastain has a number of high-profile projects in the works and will be seen next in Christopher Nolan's eagerly-anticipated Interstellar. She made her name in the Oscar-nominated Zero Dark Thirty and has also appeared in Lawless, The Help and Terrence Malick's The Tree Of Life.

The only other actor linked to season two of True Detective is Brad Pitt.
