Henry Cavill promises 'realistic' Superman for 'Man Of Steel'

Henry Cavill has promised that the new Superman movie offers a "realistic view" of the comic book hero.

Cavill stars as Clark Kent in Man Of Steel, a reboot of the Superman film franchise from Watchmen director Zack Snyder and Batman producer Christopher Nolan. The film's first trailer was released in July (2012) - scroll down to watch it.

Discussing his depiction of Clark Kent aka Superman, Cavill told Cineplex: "What I can say is that it's a modernisation of the character and a very realistic view of one, obviously, very fantastic individual. It's an unreal situation, but it's approached from a very practical viewpoint. We wanted to make the character easier to identify with."

British actor Cavill, 29, also admitted that he was very much aware of the character's iconic status. He continued: "There are a lot of people relying on me to do this well. I gladly accept that responsibility, and it’s a great one to have because it’s a wonderful opportunity. I don't let the pressures get to me because that's going to hinder my performance and, therefore, let people down. So I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman."

Alongside Cavill, Man Of Steel boasts a bumper cast including Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as the villainous General Zod and Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Superman's biological father. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane will play his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent.

The film's script has been written by David S Goyer, whose previous credits include Batman Begins and Jumper. Man Of Steel is scheduled for release on June 14, 2013.
