Darren Aronofsky tells actor to 'get bigger'

Hugh Jackman consuming 6,000 calories a day for 'The Wolverine'

Hugh Jackman has revealed that he’s consuming 6,000 calories a day in order to bulk up for his part in Darren Aronofsky’s forthcoming film The Wolverine. The Australian actor, who is reprising the Wolverine role for the second time away from the X-Men films, said he'd gained 20lbs since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

He told The LA Times: "Darren said with the last one, 'Hey, you looked great, but you're so tall that in those long shots you looked kind of like Clint Eastwood, and that's not Wolverine.'"

He added: "He said that Wolverine, in the comics, is powerful, stocky, he's short and thick. So he said, 'I want you to go there, get bigger.'"

Jackman also said that he believes The Wolverine will appease fans after the ill-received Origins.

"I feel like all the planets are finally aligned to make a great movie," he said. "I think we're going to make one that people will describe as the best of the bunch."
