The list of possible directors for the forthcoming Hunger Games sequel has expanded again, with two more of Hollywood's big names rumoured to be in the running.

As reported by The Playlist, Francis Lawrence, director of I Am Legend and, most recently, the Robert Pattison led Water For Elephants is a potential replacement for Gary Ross who left the series once he discovered the sequel would be made under a strict timetable.

r /> The second name added to the list is Moneyball director Bennett Miller. Miller was Oscar nominated for Capote, the 2006 biopic which earnt Philip Seymour Hoffman the Academy Award for Lead Actor.

The invariable schedule for the second instalment in Suzanne Collins trilogy is due largely to lead actress Jennifer Lawrence's commitment to the X-Men: First Class sequel. Lawrence, who will again take on the shapeshifting mutant Mystique, is set to shoot the superhero movie in January of next year.

With Lionsgate looking to capitalise on the enormous success of the first Hunger Games, this tight turnaround has led to the company calling for Catching Fire to be finished principal photography later this year, before the fifth/seventh X:Men shoots.

Bennett Miller and Francis Lawrence (no relation) now join names as varied as David Cronenberg (The Fly), Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (21 Grams). Steven Soderbergh, who worked as a second unit director on the first film, has also been included in speculation.

Catching Fire is tentatively scheduled for a November 2013 release.
