Idris Elba in new trailer for 'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom' - watch
Trailer features 'Ordinary Love', the first new song from U2 in three years
A new trailer for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom has been released via Yahoo! Movies. Watch it below.
The trailer's preview scenes are set to a brand new original song by U2, titled 'Ordinary Love'. The song, which was written especially for the film, is the first slice of new material from the Irish band since 2010.
Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom stars Luther's Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela, the iconic anti-apartheid leader and politician. It follows Mandela's journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his imprisonment for sabotage and conspiracy to overthrow the government, subsequent release and his inauguration in 1994 as the first democratically-elected president of South Africa - which was watched by over a billion TV viewers worldwide.
According to Paddy Power, Elba is currently third favourite at 5/1 to take home the 'best actor' gong at next year's Oscars for his performance in the film, which is based on Mandela's own autobiographical book, Long Walk To Freedom, published in 1994. William Nicholson, Oscar-nominated for Gladiator and Les Misérables, wrote the script.
Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) directed and Skyfall's Naomie Harris co-stars as Mandela's former wife Winnie. The film opens in US cinemas on November 29 before getting a UK release on January 3, 2014.
