Idris Elba has reassured fans that they can most probably expect to see more of Luther.

The detective drama returned after a two-and-a-half year hiatus for a pair of hourlong episodes last December. Before that, four episodes aired in 2013 and 2011, and six were broadcast when the series debuted in 2010.

Asked on This Morning if a Luther movie is a possibility, Elba replied: "A film is on the wish list. I think John Luther could transfer really well to a film. We haven't quite got there yet, but yeah man, it could happen."

He also spoke optimistically about the possibility of Luther returning to the small screen in the future, saying: "I'd like to [do more episodes]. The audience loved John Luther and I don't think the story's over yet."

Elba is currently promoting sci-fi sequel Star Trek Beyond, out July 22, in which he plays the main villain terrorising Chris Pine's Captain Kirk, Simon Pegg's Scotty and Zachary Quinto's Spock.

Yesterday (July 14) it was announced that he has been nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance in Luther's recent two-part special, the third time he has been recognised by the Emmys for his performance as John Luther.
