'Inception' stays top of the US box office

Inception held the top spot at the US Box Office this weekend (August 1) for the third week running, reports Box Office Mojo. The thriller, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, made £17.4 million over the weekend, bringing its domestic total to £122.4 million.
The highest new box office entry was the Steve Carrell comedy Dinner for Schmucks, which made £14.7 million.

The Angelina Jolie film Salt slipped to third place, while Despicable Me slipped to the fourth spot with £9.8 million.

Cats And Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore opened in fifth place with a disappointing £7.9 million. Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution at Time Warner, said: "We probably failed to create the same level of interest that we had in the original."
