'Iron Man 3' becomes fifth highest-grossing movie ever
It's now right behind the final 'Harry Potter' film on the all time list
Iron Man 3 has become the fifth highest-grossing film in box office history.
As of today (May 28), the superhero sequel has earned $372 million at US cinemas and $775 million internationally for a global total of $1.147 billion (£760 million), according to Box Office Mojo.
It's now overtaken 2011's Transformers: Dark Of The Moon to place right the final Harry Potter film - 2011's And The Deathly Hallows - Part 2 - on the all time top grossers list.
Top of the pile is 2009's Avatar, followed by 1997's Titanic and then last year's The Avengers, which also featured Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark.
At present, Downey Jr has yet to decide whether he wants to make another standalone Iron Man film, though he's apparently in negotiations to reprise his role as Tony Stark in two more The Avengers movies. The Avengers 2 is set for release in May 2015.
