'Iron Man 3' plot details revealed by Disney

Tony Stark will face 'an enemy whose reach knows no bounds'

'Iron Man 3' plot details revealed by Disney

A lengthy plot teaser for Iron Man 3 has been released by Walt Disney Pictures.

The eagerly-anticipated sequel began shooting in North Carolina this June (2012). It will be Robert Downey Jr's fourth outing as Tony Stark, a billionaire inventor who creates a powered suit of armour and turns himself into a superhero. The actor previously played Stark in 2008's Iron Man, 2010's Iron Man 2 and 2012's The Avengers.

The new film sees Stark do battle with an enemy called The Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley. The official plot synopsis teases: "Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle."

The teaser, as revealed by ComingSoon.net, continues: "With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?"

Back in August (2012), Downey Jr injured his ankle while shooting a stunt, causing Marvel Studios to postpone production for around six weeks. However, filming resumed on October 1, and the sequel is still on course for its May 2013 release.

Meanwhile, the first Iron Man 3 trailer is due to appear online on October 23. Alongside Downey Jr and Kingsley, the film will feature Gwyneth Paltrow's fourth appearance as the memorably-named Pepper Potts. The ensemble cast is rounded off by Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and James Badge Dale.
