Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith will both star in The Karate Kid 2, the sequel to 2010's The Karate Kid.

Breck Eisner will direct the new film, a change from the previous film's director, Harald Zwart. The films are based on the 1984 movie The Karate Kid, which starred Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita as Mr Miyagi. The original film had three sequels, 1986's The Karate Kid, Part II, 1989's The Karate Kid, Part III and The Next Karate Kid in 1994, which saw Hilary Swank appearing as a new student of Mr Miyagi.

The 2010 version saw Smith's character move from Detroit to Beijing, where he learned kung-fu skills from Chan's Mr Han. The film was co-produced by Smith's parents, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Worldwide, the film was a hit, grossing $358 million from a budget of $40 million.

In 2012, Jaden Smith starred with his father in M Night Shyamalan's After Earth, a sci-fi thriller set 1,000 thousand years after the human race was forced to leave its home planet.
