Jake Gyllenhaal reveals 'Source Code' director's musical secrets
Duncan Jones had tricks up his sleeve to disorientate actor
Source Code star Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed how director Duncan Jones used music to manipulate him in the role. Gyllenhaal has been getting rave reviews in the Moon director’s new sci-fi thriller. He plays a military pilot who finds himself on a train in Chicago, seemingly in the body of another man.
The actor has now revealed to Empire magazine that Jones would pipe music into his ear to add to the character's sense of disorientation.
"I have Duncan to thank [for looking confused]," he said. "He got this ear piece that I'd put in my ear, and he'd play random music and weird sounds to throw me off while we were in the middle of a scene."
Asked what music the director used, Gyllenhaal said: "Sade! No, it was really obscure stuff. African choir music. Classical baroque. So it was a real disorientation I was feeling. Sometimes I'd break up and be like, 'What the fuck is Duncan playing now?'"
Source Code was released in the UK on Friday (April 1). You can watch a clip from the film by clicking above.
