Director plans break from 'Avatar' sequel

James Cameron names next project

Avatar director James Cameron has suggested his next film will be a non-fiction project concerning the indigenous people of the Amazon, after he spent time visiting the Xikrin-Kayapo tribe who live in Brazil. The Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reports that Cameron has been invited to meet the tribal elders following his time spent with the Xikrin-Kayapo - a documentary chronicling his visit will be included a new version of the Avatar DVD, set to be released in time for Christmas.

The Xikrin-Kayapo are opposed to a dam being built on the Xingu River, which they fear will flood the banks of the river and displace 16,000 people. The director now plans to make a new film documenting their cause.

"I want to take a 3D camera to film how they live, their culture," said Cameron. "When I was asked to help the Brazilian Indians, who were desperate, I could not turn away."
