James Franco to take over from Matt Damon in new 'Bourne' film?
However, the actor will not be playing the character of Jason Bourne
James Franco is reportedly set to take over from Matt Damon and assume the lead role in the fourth Bourne film. Damon will not be reprising his role as the amnesiac spy in the upcoming The Bourne Legacy, after the series' director Paul Greengrass left the franchise after 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum.
However, Franco will not be taking over the role of Jason Bourne, as director Tony Gilroy, who wrote the first two screenplays and contributed to the third, will instead focus the movie around a different spy, reports Showbiz411.com.
The director spoke about his decision not to replace Damon, explaining: "I couldn't imagine trying to replace him. All the conspiratorial politics aside, these are very uncynical, honest movies, and I don't know another actor who brings more integrity and dignity, and a lack of cynicism, to his work than Matt."
However, it is reported that Franco is yet to be confirmed for the film, and there are also as yet no details of the new lead character.
