A new trailer for Filth, the forthcoming film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's controversial novel, has been released.

The trailer features sex, drugs and plenty of swearing and should definitely be considered NSFW (not safe for work). If this doesn't bother you, scroll down and click 'play' to watch it.

Filth stars James McAvoy as Welsh's memorable anti-hero Bruce Robertson, a corrupt police officer with a coke habit and a dubious attitude towards women. The film follows his bid to secure a promotion by sabotaging a rival officer played by Jamie Bell.

The cast also includes Jim Broadbent, Imogen Poots, Eddie Marsan and Joanne Froggatt. Scottish filmmaker Jon S Baird directed from his own script based on Welsh's novel and Filth is set to open in cinemas on September 27.

Published in 1998, Filth was the third novel from the always provocative Welsh. His debut novel Trainspotting was famously turned into an acclaimed 1996 film directed by Danny Boyle and starring Ewan McGregor. Boyle revealed in March (2013) that he is working on a sequel "very loosely based" on Welsh's follow-up novel Porno and McGregor has since said he's "totally up for it".
