Jamie Foxx confirms Electro role in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'
He'll be playing a baddie who has the ability to control lightning
Jamie Foxx has confirmed that he is playing Electro in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.
Foxx was linked to the villainous role last month (November 2012) after he dressed up as Electro for a Halloween party. The character is a baddie from the Spider-Man comic books who acquires the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning.
In an announcement from Columbia Pictures yesterday (December 3), Foxx officially joined the cast alongside Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. Now Foxx has confirmed that he will indeed be playing Electro.
He told Entertainment Tonight: "I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a ... genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on."
The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, which has no official title yet, is due to start shooting early next year (2013) in New York. Columbia has scheduled its release for May 2, 2014.
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are back as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, alongside director Marc Webb. Meanwhile, The Descendants star Shailene Woodley has also joined the cast and is believed to be playing Mary Jane Watson.
