Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth in new 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' clip - watch

A new clip from this month's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been released.

The 40-second teaser features a tense exchange between Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen and Liam Hemsworth's Gale Hawthorne. It premiered during Hemsworth's appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Tuesday (November 5) - watch it 1min20 into the video below.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the sequel to last year's The Hunger Games, an adaptation of the first novel in a trilogy by author Suzanne Collins. The film grossed close to $700 million (£450 million) worldwide, becoming the ninth highest earner of 2012.

Lawrence and Hemsworth are joined in the sequel by fellow returning cast members Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland and Lenny Kravitz. Meanwhile, new additions to the cast for Catching Fire include Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee, and Sam Claflin, whose character Finnick Odair is a potential love interest for Lawrence's Katniss.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will have its global premiere in London next Monday (November 11) before opening in cinemas worldwide on November 22.

Suzanne Collins' third and final Hunger Games novel, Mockingjay, is being split into two separate films, which are set for release in November 2014 and November 2015. Julianne Moore has joined the cast for the final two movies and will play ruthless leader President Alma Coin.
