Jodie Foster believes Mel Gibson will be able to rehabilitate his reputation in Hollywood as the pair get set to begin work on a movie together. Foster will direct and act in new movie The Beaver, which will star the controversial actor.
Gibson's reputation took a battering after tapes leaked in which he was heard using racist and threatening language in an argument with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
However actress-turned director Foster, who appeared with Gibson in 1994's Maverick, believes despite his public troubles, the Braveheart actor remains popular in Hollywood.
“He is incredibly loved by everyone that’s ever come into contact with him or works with him," Foster told extratv.warnerbros.com. "He is truly the most loved man in the film business. So, hopefully that stands for something.”
It has also been confirmed that Gibson will make a cameo in The Hangover 2, a move Foster backed, explaining that she "really liked the humour in that first movie, so I'm glad he'll be in it".
The Beaver, about a man who treats a glove puppet as a real life creature, was put on hold after Gibson's troubles became public, but it is expected to be released later this year or early in 2011.
