Marvel filmmaker Joss Whedon has said the sequel to his smash-hit movie Avengers Assemble will "dig deeper" to "cause pain".
Whedon is currently working on the script for the follow-up to 2012's highest-grossing movie and revealed that he should have the final draft ready in "a couple of months."
When asked by MTV.com if the sequel will be bigger, he said: "Don't go bigger; go deeper. All of these people have met, so you have that out of the way. Now you can spend your time just digging in - and by digging in, I mean with a scalpel, to cause pain."
Released last May, Avengers Assemble took over $1.51 billion (£930 million) at the worldwide box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2012 by some margin. Two other movies broke the $1 billion barrier: The Dark Knight Rises with $1.08 billion (£660 million) and Skyfall with $1.02 billion (£630 million).
The sequel to Avengers Assemble is set for release on May 1, 2015. In the meantime, Marvel favourites Iron Man, Thor and Captain America will all appear in their own standalone movies with Whedon acting as a creative consultant on all three.
