'Jurassic Park 4' release date revealed

Dinosaur romp to hit cinemas in June next year

'Jurassic Park 4' release date revealed

Jurassic Park 4 will be released in June 2014, it has been confirmed.

The next installment in the dinosaur franchise will hit cinemas on June 13, according to Universal Pictures, while Deadline report that the film will be shot in 3D. Previous reports revealed that Steven Spielberg would serve as a producer on the project, but was not intending to direct.

In September last year, Kathleen Kennedy - who will produce the film along with Spielberg - said that the film was still at the writing stage. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the screenwriting duo behind Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, were previously revealed to have been hired to provide a screenplay for the flick.

Kennedy also admitted that extending a film series as popular as Jurassic Park is "really hard". She explained: "We're trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn't going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We've got to start with a script and the story."

The Jurassic Park films, based on a 1993 novel by Michael Crichton, have grossed a collective $1.9 billion (£1.2 billion) worldwide. Spielberg directed 1994's Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel The Lost World, but passed the baton to Joe Johnston for Jurassic Park III in 2001.
