Keanu Reeves in talks to star in live-action version of 'Akira'

Keanu Reeves is being sounded out about taking one of the lead roles in an adaptation of the Akira manga comic series, it has been reported. Studio Warner Bros wants Reeves to play the role of Kaneda in the film, a live-action version of Katsuhiro Otomo's acclaimed series.

The film tells the story of a biker gang leader who tries to save his best friend from a medical experiment.

According to Hollywoodreporter.com, the studio has had trouble finding lead actors for the Albert Hughes-directed movie, with James Franco, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Robert Pattinson and Michael Fassbender all rumoured to have been in line.

"Reeves doesn't yet have an offer for the role, but we hear the talks with his reps have been going well," the news source stated.

The Canadian actor is currently shooting 47 Ronin, in which he plays the role of samurai Kai.

Reeves has also starred in the title role of Malcolm Venville's romantic comedy Henry's Crime this year.
