Last female munchkin from 'The Wizard of Oz' dies
Ruth Robinson Duccini was 95 years old
The last surviving female munchkin from the 1939 classic film The Wizard of Oz has died.
Ruth Robinson Duccini was 95. Stephen Cox, the author of The Munchkins Of Oz, confirmed her death, reports Deadline. Only one of the munchkin cast now survives - 93-year-old Jerry Maren.
In 2012, the blue and white gingham dress worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard Of Oz was sold for $480,000 (£302,000) at auction. Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills said the price for the blue and white pinafore garment, worn by the actress throughout the 1939 film classic, was in line with pre-sale estimates. A similar dress, worn by Garland during the film's test shoots, fetched a higher sum of $910,000 when it was put to auction in 2011. However, auctioneer Darren Julien said the price difference was due to there being only a few test dresses made, while there were seven versions of the one sold in 2012.
