Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller could take over helming Ghostbusters 3, according to reports.
Ivan Reitman was originally slated to direct the sequel, but he recently revealed that although he would still serve on the project as filmmaker, he had decided to step down from his role behind the camera following the death of actor and writer Harold Ramis.
"It's a version of Ghostbusters that has the originals in a very minor role," he said. "When I came back from Harold's funeral, it was really moving and it made me think about a lot of things.
"I just finally met with Amy [Pascal] and Doug Belgrad when I got back. I said I'd been thinking about it for weeks, that I'd rather just produce this Ghostbusters."
Now, Deadline founder Nikki Finke has hinted that Lord and Miller are favourites to take over. "Hot duo to direct #Ghostbusters3? My sources say Phil Lord & Chris Miller ('Lego Movie', '21 Jump St') in talks to replace Ivan Reitman," she wrote on Twitter.
Released earlier this year, The Lego Movie was a critical and commercial hit, topping the Box Office in both the UK and US. A sequel is already in the works and is set to be released in in May 2017.
