Lindsay Lohan stars in new trailer for Bret Easton Ellis's 'The Canyons' - watch

A new trailer for Bret Easton Ellis's The Canyons has been released. Scroll down and click 'play' to watch it.

The moody preview features a voiceover from the film's star Lindsay Lohan, who asks: "OK tell me something - do you really like movies? Really, really like movies? When was the last time you went to see a movie in the theatre - you know, a movie that you really felt meant something to you? I don't know, you know, I guess maybe it's just not my thing any more."

The Canyons marks the screenwriting debut of Bret Easton Ellis (pictured right), the controversial author of American Psycho and Less Than Zero. The film is billed as a "contemporary LA noir... about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their twenties". The official synopsis also promises "deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence".

Lohan stars opposite porn star James Deen, whose many previous screen credits include Orgy University, unSEXpected and Fuckenstein. Deen apparently endured a fraught working relationship with Lohan and has since described her behaviour on set as "like a child lashing out".

The Canyons was directed by Paul Schrader, best known as the screenwriter behind Raging Bull and Taxi Driver. It was reportedly rejected from this year's South By Southwest Film Festival due to "quality issues" but is now due to open in US cinemas on August 2. A UK release date has yet to be confirmed.
