Lindsay Lohan to play Elizabeth Taylor?

Lindsay Lohan is being lined up to play Elizabeth Taylor in a forthcoming TV movie.

The actress is in early talks to portray the cinema icon in a new film for the Lifetime network, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project has been in development since last May, and is being developed for the female-slanting network by independent producer Larry Thompson, who previously worked on their telemovie Amish Grace.

Like Taylor, Lohan is a former child star who has endured a tumultuous life and career of highs and lows. Since she made her first appearance in Disney's 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, she has enjoyed acclaim for her roles in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls.

Last November she was sentenced to jail time due to a violation of her probation. Lohan failed to attend court-ordered therapy sessions, and was kicked out of the Downtown Women's Centre in Los Angeles, where she had been sent for community service. In the end, she spent less than five hours in jail on November 7.

Elizabeth Taylor died last March aged 79.
