Louis CK has surprise-released a web series starring himself and Boardwalk Empire star Steve Buscemi.

The 67-minute first episode of the drama, named Horace and Pete, is available to stream now for a $5 fee. It is primarily made up of long shots, centring on the two titular men and the patrons of the Brooklyn bar they run together. Bringing it further into the realm of theatre is a 30-second intermission.

Among the cast are Saturday Night Live's Aidy Bryant as Alice, the daughter of Louis CK's character, Horace, Vicky Cristina Barcelona's Rebecca Hall as Rachel, Horace's girlfriend, and The Sopranos' Edie Falco as Sylvia, his sister. Other cast members include Alan Alda, Jessica Lange, Kurt Metzger and Steven Wright. Paul Simon wrote the theme tune.

Announcing the series, Louis CK's news email simply read, "Hi there. Horace and Pete episode one is available for download. $5. Go here to watch it. We hope you like it. Regards, Louis."

Gothamist notes that the first episode must have been filmed in the two weeks, due to references to topical issues like the Super Bowl and Donald Trump's campaign.

There is no more news about when the following episodes will arrive. Louis CK's other series, Louie – which he writes, directs, edits, and stars in – is currently on hiatus.
