Lucy Hale has tackled rumours that could appear in the film version of Fifty Shades Of Grey.

The screen rights to the erotic novel - which traces the sexual relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and businessman Christian Grey - have been acquired by Universal Pictures and Focus Features. Numerous actors, including Ian Somerhalder, Ashley Benson and Hale, have been linked to the project, but casting announcements have yet to be made.

Discussing the possibility of starring as Anastasia Steele, 23-year-old Hale told MTV News: "People have said that, but people have also said [I could play] the little sister, which I think could make sense, because I look a little young for Ana, but God, what a big role to take on. I'm really curious to see how it's all going to [play out]."

Hale, best known for her role in teen drama series Pretty Little Liars, also addressed the impact that Fifty Shades Of Grey could have on her career. "I definitely am ready to take a step and do something a bit more risky, absolutely, but it's a fine line. I don't know what that fine line is, but I'm definitely ready to explore a darker side of my acting abilities," she said.

The three Fifty Shades novels, written by British author EL James, have sold more than 10 million copies collectively since being published last year. The series has become notorious for its explicit sexual content and controversial portrayal of a relationship involving BDSM.
