Mark Strong to play Lex Luthor in 'Man Of Steel' sequel?

Mark Strong has fuelled rumours that he could play Superman's arch-nemesis Lex Luthor in a Man Of Steel sequel.

Strong, who has worked on films including Sunshine, Zero Dark Thirty, Kick Ass, Sherlock Holmesand Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, was coy when asked by Digital Spy if reports linking him with the role had any substance to them. "All I can say is... watch this space," he replied.

Rumours about casting choices for the next film in the Man Of Steel franchise have intensified since director Zack Snyder revealed that Batman would join Superman in his sequel, with Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and The Hobbitactor Richard Armitage all being touted to play the caped crusader.

Brolin, 46, is reportedly "top name" at the moment, followed by the younger Gosling, 32. Other rumoured contenders include Armitage, True Blood's Joe Manganiello, Saving Private Ryan's Max Martini and British actor Matthew Goode, who's worked with Snyder before on 2009's Watchmen.

Production on the sequel is expected to begin next year and Warner Bros are targeting a summer 2015 release date. Since its release on June 14, Man Of Steel has taken over $630 million (£410 million) at the box office worldwide.
