Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson star in Michael Bay's 'Pain & Gain' trailer - watch
It's an action comedy based on the true story of a group of bodybuilders-turned-criminals
Director Michael Bay has released the first trailer for Pain & Gain, his new action comedy film. Scroll all the way down and click 'play' to watch it.
Pain & Gain is based on the true story of the 'Sun Gym Gang', a posse of Miami bodybuilders who got pulled into an extortion ring and kidnapping plot that went horribly wrong. Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson play two of the gym-loving criminals, while Ed Harris appears as a private detective chasing them down.
Pain & Gain was scripted by screenwriting duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, whose previous credits include the Chronicles Of Narnia trilogy. They based their screenplay on a series of newspaper articles about the 'Sun Gym Gang' by journalist Pete Collins, which were published in the Miami New Times in 1999.
After working together on Pain & Gain, Bay and Wahlberg have decided to team up again for Transformers 4. The director confirmed Wahlberg's casting last month (November 2012), writing on his website: "We had a blast working on Pain & Gain and I'm so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his calibre is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers legacy."
Transformers 4 is set to begin shooting next spring for a June 2014 release. In the meantime, Pain & Gain will open in UK cinemas on May 3, 2013.
