'Martyrs' to be remade by director Daniel Stamm

2008 arty French horror film getting US remake

'Martyrs' to be remade by director Daniel Stamm

The Last Exorcism director Daniel Stamm has signed up to remake acclaimed French horror film Martyrs. The 2008 original was directed by Pascal Laugier, and won critics over thanks to its graphic style and intelligent scares, being considered alongside films like Inside and Frontière(s) as part of a movement of 'New French Extremity'.

"Martyrs is very nihilistic," said Stamm of his appointment on the English language remake. "The American approach [that I'm looking at] would go through all that darkness but then give a glimmer of hope. You don’t have to shoot yourself when it’s over."

The film will be produced by Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey, reports Filmshaft.com. Godfrey is hoping that Kristen Stewart will star.
