Matthew Vaughn in talks to direct next 'Star Wars' movie?

It's only a rumour, but it could explain why Vaughn chose not to helm the new 'X-Men' sequel

Matthew Vaughn in talks to direct next 'Star Wars' movie?

Matthew Vaughn is reportedly in talks to direct Star Wars Episode VII.

Last week (October 31), Disney announced plans to make a new trilogy of Star Wars films after buying Lucasfilm from George Lucas for $4.05 billion (£2.5 billion). Episode VII is earmarked for release in 2015.

Star Wars creator Lucas has written treatments for the new trilogy and handed them over to Disney. He will serve as "creative consultant" on the new Star Wars movies, but will not play an active role in their development.

Meanwhile, five days before Disney's Star Wars announcement, it was revealed that Vaughn had decided not to direct X Men: Days Of Future Past. The Englishman had been expected to return to the director's chair for the sequel to his successful 2011 reboot X Men: First Class.

A source has now informed Collider that "the main reason" Vaughn declined to helm the X-Men sequel is because he is in talks to direct Star Wars Episode VII. However, Collider states clearly that the story should be considered "unconfirmed" because it was unable to verify the lead with a second source.

Meanwhile, Bryan Singer has been confirmed as director for X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Vaughn has devised the story for the sequel and will still be involved as a producer.
