Michael Bay confirms new ‘Transformers’ trilogy and announces lead
Jack Reynor will star opposite Mark Wahlberg in 'Transformers 4'
Michael Bay has announced that Transformers 4 will be the start of a new trilogy and that Jack Reynor will be taking the lead opposite Mark Wahlberg.
The director announced the news on his blog saying: "I just hired a great new actor for Transformers 4 to star against Mark Wahlberg. Jack Reynor, he is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie What Richard Did [released in the UK on 11 January 2013]. This kid is the real deal."
Bay went on to dispel online rumours that Transformers 4 is a reboot saying that the new movie will take place four years after the events of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon and the reason for the new cast is because "this Transformers will feel very different than the last three" as they're embarking on a new trilogy.
Although Nicola Peltz has been rumoured to play the female lead as Wahlberg's daughter and Reynor's love interest, Bay has yet to confirm the rest of the cast.
Bay has directed all of the previous three Transformers movies starring Shia LaBeouf, and his latest film Pain & Gain, starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, is due for release in the UK on 3 May 2013.
Transformers 4 is expected to be released in the UK on 27 June 2014.
